About this property

Gather somewhere extraordinary. Set within 47 acres of woodland, gardens and waterfalls near Rhayader, Rhydoldog House is a remarkable eight-bedroom Welsh country house sleeping up to 17 guests, made for family gatherings and group holidays. Once the family home of Laura Ashley and later purchased by Charlotte Church, it brings together a fascinating story, imaginative interiors and the freedom to slow down in beautiful Mid Wales. A HOUSE WITH A STORY Laura and Bernard Ashley bought Rhydoldog House in 1973, making it their family home during the growth of one of Britain's best-loved design names. Decades later, Charlotte Church began a new chapter here, reimagining the house with creativity and a close connection to its surroundings. Today, that combination of heritage, character and natural beauty makes this a memorable setting for your own time together. BRING YOUR FAVOURITE PEOPLE Think unhurried breakfasts, conversations that carry on long after dinner and whole days without a packed itinerary. Bring the family together for a reunion, plan a countryside escape with friends or mark a special birthday with a stay somewhere full of personality. There is room in the day for being sociable, and room to enjoy a little quiet, too. INDIVIDUAL ROOMS, UNFORGETTABLE CHARACTER The eight bedrooms each have a distinct atmosphere, with nature-inspired details, handmade textiles and an expressive use of colour and texture. Some look across the gardens towards the Nant Caethon Valley; others draw their mood from the woodland. Beautifully individual bathrooms add to the sense that this is a house to discover, rather than simply somewhere to sleep. COMFORTS FOR YOUR STAY A commercial kitchen gives your group space to prepare meals, while Starlink Wi-Fi, underfloor heating and a projector bring practical comforts to this secluded setting. A washing machine and tumble dryer are available, with parking for approximately 18 cars. 47 ACRES TO EXPLORE The grounds are at the heart of a stay here. Follow the Waterfall Trail through woodland, seek out the forest pool and waterfall shower, or pause beneath the shelter of the Japanese Tea House at the forest's edge. Gardens created in collaboration with RHS Chelsea gold medallist Juliet Sargeant include the sweeping Elemental Garden, the white-flowered Moon Garden and the Physic Garden. Discover Wood Henge and the Pool of One Hundred Reflections, with quiet corners offering a different perspective on the landscape. For a more energetic outing, the climb towards the Seat of the Empress rewards the effort with views towards the Cambrian Mountains. Or keep things wonderfully simple: a gentle wander, a favourite book and time to listen to the water. FAMILY STAYS AND GROUP ESCAPES IN MID WALES With Rhayader and the Elan Valley to explore nearby, Rhydoldog House offers a distinctive setting for a large family holiday, a reunion or a relaxing break with friends in Wales. Come for the house and its remarkable history. Make the stay your own through the moments you share. The grounds include natural water, steep paths and uneven terrain. Children need close supervision, and some routes are suited to confident walkers.
